"Jez has an extensive background in professional road racing and most recently duathlons. I have worked alongside Jez during cycling coaching courses and during some group coaching activities. An outstanding coach with credentials to match, we look forward to working with him again"

As a coach Jez has worked with national and world champion duathletes and triathletes , pro cycling teams, paralympic medallists, stockbrokers, shop owners and even a professional clown! Jez started his own sporting life racing cyclo cross in West London at the age of 12 and he soon progressed to road cycling working his way up to Elite status by the age of 21. Not long after, he began racing full time in Europe, initially based in the Auvergne and then in the North of France. It was here that he attended ‘bike fit school’ and began a life long obsession with perfection through bike fitting and ergonomics. In the winter of 2002 Jez’s then coach suggested he tried duathlon as a winter training aid and he never looked back, turning down a contract to race in the French first division of road cycling in order to pursue much less lucrative duathlon goals. Since doing so he has won over 80 duathlons and has gone on to achieve his duathlon goals of becoming British number one and breaking into the worlds’ top 20 at World Cup level.

He also recently helped to prepare one of his former riders to be the first Type I diabetic to complete the Marathon des Sables. He is an editor of the Journal of Sports Sciences and has published in excess of 50 scientific papers and book chapters and is currently an expert reviewer for the Journal of Sports Sciences, the International Journal of Sports Medicine, European Journal of Sport Sciences, International Journal of Sports Physiology and Performance, Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport, Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise the Welcome Trust and the Medical Research Council. He is a Fellow and former Chair and Honorary Treasurer of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences and formerly the Associate Dean for Research + KT in the Faculty of Health Life and Social Sciences, Edinburgh Napier University. He also is the current chair of the World Commission of Sport and Science in Cycling Science.

"I have known Richard for a number of years and we have both trained together through cold Scottish winters and have worked together on overseas training camps. He has been fundamental to my understanding and a constant source of usefull information, especially when it comes to power based cycling questions.  An outstanding coach and coach educator and I will continue to work in unison with Richard."
